ABOUT FREEMASONRY

Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world. We share a common goal of helping each other become better men. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while remaining devoted to his family, country, and fraternity.

Ancient…and modern.
We’re united by three fundamental principles—brotherly love, charity and truth. We have members from all main stream religions and all areas of the world, but religion and politics are never discussed in our lodges. Our principles are made relevant to the 21st century through the personal development, good works and social connections available to our members in the 75 lodges across Quebec.

Great benefits…for you and others
Freemasonry offers much to its members. Our low annual dues give you access to all masonic lodges, the opportunity to grow, the chance to make a difference. and It offers the chance to socialize and work with men who have the same values and ideals.

ABOUT FREEMASONRY
BECOMING A MASON

BECOMING A MASON

To become a mason you must :

  • Be a man older than 21,

  • Have a good reputation,

  • Believe in a superior being,

  • Be able to support yourself and your family

  • Come to Freemasonry of your own free will and accord.

Men from all walks of life become masons. If you meet the criteria listed above and submit an application form, 2 or 3 masons will make an appointment to meet with you. They will answer some of your questions and get to know you. They will report back to the lodge and make a recommendation. Based on their recommendation the lodge will vote on your acceptance. Once accepted, the lodge's secretary will invite you for your initiation.

Once initiated you are a mason, an entered apprentice mason. This is the first of three degrees. When you and your mentor feel that you are ready, you will have the opportunity to move on to the second and third degrees. At each degree, masonic secrets will be communicated to you.

Following your third degree, you will have the opportunity to move through the lodge's leadership positions. You will also be allowed to participate in Freemasonry's appended bodies : the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Shriners. These bodies are a continuation of Freemasonry. They allow you to continue to learn our secret arts and mysteries.
